Lost Ears Club

Some people paint miracles. Some people slice them.

Luke 22 says that when the soldiers came for Jesus, Peter pulled a sword and sliced off the ear of the high priest’s servant. Jesus immediately healed it, setting the record as the world’s fastest urgent care.

The truth is, we all have moments where we overdo our faith. Peter did not need to cut an ear, Van Gogh did not need to cut his own ear, and we do not need to be cutting ears either.

Sometimes faith is not about dramatic gestures. It’s about listening to the still voice inside your ear.

Questions for the Week and Strong:

1. What dramatic thing are you tempted to do for God that He never actually asked for?

2. Do you listen to Jesus or do you bring a sword to a prayer meeting like Peter?

3. If Jesus healed an ear in front of you, what part of your life would you hope he reattaches?

This Week in Prayer and Bold Brushstrokes:

Lord teach me to listen before I leap into dramatic choices. Give me the calm of Jesus and protect me from making Peter level decisions. And if my spiritual life ever looks like Van Gogh’s self care plan, please intervene early.

Disclaimer: That’s Not How You Christian is a comedy brand that uses satire, biblical references, and cultural commentary to explore faith, church life, and spiritual oddities. While our content is meant to entertain and spark reflection, it is not intended to replace personal theological study, pastoral counsel, or genuine discipleship. If you're looking for spiritual guidance, we highly recommend a real-life church, pastor, or your grandma.

We make jokes about faith because we take it seriously, and because we believe it can handle a little laughter. That said, nothing in this post should be taken as official doctrine, religious advice, or a substitute for talking to someone who knows you and your situation personally.
