Gospel Churning

Is this why Jesus got invited to everything?

Jesus’ first miracle was not subtle. John 2 says He turned water into wine at a wedding. Not a healing. Not calming a storm. A party save.

The drinks ran out. Mary notices immediately, because mothers always notice when something is off and somehow make it your responsibility. At first Jesus hesitates, but then like a good son, Jesus refused to let the party die on His watch.

Now look, could He have turned it into butter? Sure. He’s Jesus. The Son of Man healed eyeballs out of dirt. He told a storm to knock it off and it listened. He fixed a severed ear like it was a loose button. So butter was not out of the question.

Jesus doesn’t show up to barely fix things. He upgrades them. He turns embarrassment into abundance. Panic into praise. Water into something that makes the head waiter say, “Why did you save the good stuff?”

Faith isn’t about surviving the moment. It’s about trusting that Jesus knows what kind of miracle the room actually needs. And sometimes, it’s hard to believe it’s not butter.

Questions for the Week and Strong:

1. Are you asking Jesus to fix the problem or upgrade the party?

2. Where are you settling for butter when He’s offering wine?

3. Do you trust Jesus’ timing or keep checking the pantry yourself?

This Week in Prayer and Party Planning:

Lord, I admit I ask for safe miracles when You specialize in bold ones. Help me trust that You know the room better than I do. And if You ever hesitate before blessing me, remind me it’s probably because You’re deciding how generous to be. Amen.
