Babushka Training

Illustration of a Soviet-era basketball player carrying his elderly Babushka up a stairwell while holding a basketball, humorously depicting bearing one another’s burdens through a Cold War Russia lens. Galatians 6:2.

Who is your Babushka and are you pretending not to see them?

In Galatians 6:2, Paul is basically telling the church that following Jesus looks a lot like carrying someone else’s weight when they cannot carry it themselves. For some of us, that burden is spiritual. For others, it’s literal… like carrying Babuschka and a sheep's bladder through the subzero stairwell.

You don’t get spiritual muscle by watching others climb. You build it by hauling someone else’s burdens up the stairs, even when they keep shouting, ““Faster! Jesus carried cross, you carry me!”

Carrying others doesn’t make you weak. It makes you strong enough to keep going when no one carries you. And one day, when you’re the Babuschka, you’ll be thankful someone else trained for it.

Questions for the Week and Strong:

1. Are you building character or just upper body frustration?

2. Are you bearing one another’s burdens or quietly hoping theirs gets lighter soon?

3. Are you strengthening your faith or your ability to complain creatively?

This Week in Prayer and Soviet Strength:

Jesus, I said yes before I knew how many stairs were involved. Please give me strength, patience, and a lower center of gravity. Amen.
