Sacred Support

Who approved this outreach idea?

In Mark 1:17, Jesus tells His disciples to follow Him and that He will make them fishers of men. We hear fishing and immediately assume we need a bag of tricks. Lures. Flash. Something shiny enough to distract people long enough for us to feel effective.

Jesus never recruited with bait. He recruited with truth, presence, and a life that actually held together. We reach for gimmicks because we do not trust that following Him is compelling on its own. He said follow Me. We decided to get creative.

Questions for the Week and Strong:

1. What ideas do you have that Jesus definitely did not ask for?

2. Does your version of obedience look like a dare?

3. What person in your life might be ready for hope if you simply stopped trying to impress them?

This Week in Prayer and Honest Fishing:

Lord remind me I am not the bait. I am not the hook. I am barely the string. Help me love people without gimmicks and trust you with the parts I cannot control. Amen

Disclaimer: That’s Not How You Christian is a comedy brand that uses satire, biblical references, and cultural commentary to explore faith, church life, and spiritual oddities. While our content is meant to entertain and spark reflection, it is not intended to replace personal theological study, pastoral counsel, or genuine discipleship. If you're looking for spiritual guidance, we highly recommend a real-life church, pastor, or your grandma.

We make jokes about faith because we take it seriously, and because we believe it can handle a little laughter. That said, nothing on this site should be taken as official doctrine, religious advice, or a substitute for talking to someone who knows you and your situation personally.

Our devotionals, deep thoughts, and sketch content are created to engage minds, not bind consciences. Viewer discretion (and a sense of humor) is advised.
